Property of the week: an Amsterdam loft that’s ripe for renovation

Rough and ready

This Amsterdam loft is being touted for renovation but we’d be tempted to leave its rough brickwork as it is….

The rugged apartment on Amsterdam’s Kerkstraat 58 is on the market via Sotheby’s International for €2.95m and is a complete blank canvas. The Collective Studio has been earmarked to transform the raw, 4176 sq m space into a luxurious city retreat with a swimming pool, private gym and sauna – or even a professional recording studio. Current plans could be adapted according to the new owner’s wishes.

It might be a little shell-like now, but the two-bedroom Amsterdam property has plenty of features to play with, including lofty timber ceilings, distressed brickwork and subway-tiled walls. Rail spotlights have also been installed to continue the industrial look.

The living room and dining area are currently open-plan and most of the interior doors have been removed in favour of wide openings, which add to the feeling of space. Folding off the living room is a small walled courtyard garden filled with green trees and plants, and fitted with a deck for entertaining.

You’ll have plenty of scope to leave your mark on this redbrick home. The ground-floor loft is one of seven apartments that make up The Collective Studio’s K60 project in Amsterdam’s Art District, which sits between the Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht canals. Renders of K60 from The Collective Studio envisage it as a white-walled minimalist pad, complete with parquet floors and black-steel-and-glass partitions.

And an added perk: furniture, art and three parking spaces are included in the sale, according to the listing.
