Melbourne-based architect JCB designed this waterfront cottage in Tasmania’s Swansea, made from rammed earth.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom beach shack is part of the exclusive 29-cottage development, Piermont Retreat, and is located across the water from the Freycinet Peninsula and popular tourist destination Wineglass Bay. The area is known for its incredible natural beauty, both land and water and its exceptional star-gazing opportunities. Tasmania has some of the darkest skies in the world and offers a front-row seat for constellation spotting and watching the dancing Southern Lights (Aurora Australis).
JCB’s sustainable design features high-vaulted timber ceilings and textured walls that reflect its rammed-earth construction method. Meanwhile, interiors are the handiwork of Hecker Guthrie and revolve around a brick-lined fireplace in the living room – an ideal spot for cosying up with a good book – and stunning water views.
Hugh Hardy of Abercrombys and Leanne Dann of Elders Real Estate Swansea are listing the Tasmania property, which is being sold for $950,000 AUD and includes all furniture and furnishings. New owners will have access to Piermont’s exclusive amenities, including a tennis court, outdoor pool, private beach, kayaks, bikes, and an on-site restaurant shared with other guests.
According to the listing, ‘owners have set personal usage period as defined by the management agreement’, meaning they can stay at the cottage periodically rather than as full-time occupants. There’s more information available on request.
