Enchanting English gardens wrap this former vicarage in Warwickshire

Honey-coloured brickwork and whimsical English gardens give this former Vicarage in Wormleighton, Warwickshire, its distinctive charm.

The Old Vicarage is steeped in history. It sits on lands once owned by the Spencer family—Wormleighton Manor was their principal seat during the 16th century—and blends architectural styles from the Georgian and Victorian eras. The house has a symmetrical front and a Gothic 19th-century rear and is wrapped in gardens designed by its current owner, House & Garden Top 50 designer Angela Collins.

Collins has curated its 2.24 acres of gardens for year-round delight, offering blooms in spring and summer and stunning views over the Warwickshire countryside. Grounds are laid out loosely as ‘several rooms’ via strategically placed hedges, topiary, and mature trees, framing views of the landscape and the house itself. They also encompass an outdoor swimming pool and terrace, orchards and a kitchen garden.

Dual-period architecture continues inside the Warwickshire property, with grand but cosy interiors that mix formal rooms for entertaining with informal spaces for relaxation. And like any good country house, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It boasts limestone flooring with underfloor heating, handmade units, an electric Aga, and a walk-in pantry. There’s also a seating area and informal dining space that opens onto the garden terrace for lazy summer afternoon lunches.

High ceilings are a major draw in the formal drawing room and dining room, where there are also marble chimneypieces and original stonework. Upstairs, the seven bedrooms are spacious, with features like shutters, built-in cupboards, and chimneypieces. The principal bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, a separate dressing room, and an adjoining bathroom.

The grounds also have several outbuildings, including a 19th-century brick coach house, a modern wooden stable block, and a historic piggery.

Blue Book Agency is listing the Warwickshire property with an asking price of £2.75m.
