Steeped in 800 years of history, this monastery-turned-hotel mixes architectural heritage with a very modern kind of comfort.
There are just 12 rooms inside Vocabolo Moscatelli, which is located in a centuries-old forest in Perugia. Original wooden lintels and brickwork give way to interiors decked out in muted colours and natural materials – although there’s also the occasional hot pink sofa.
Pieces have been chosen to complement rather than compete with the historical backdrop, which dates back to the 1300s. Furniture adopts a minimalist, mid-century feel. Even so, Vocabollo Musctatelli still has a sense of rusticness – rooms retain stone fireplaces, and bathrooms are covered in tiles handmade by Cotto Etrusco.
The Umbrian hotel offers several room options, including spaces with their own spa and private garden. Rates start at around €400 a night.
