Concrete and street art combine in the latest furniture collection by Off-White founder Virgil Abloh, unveiled at Paris-based design lab Galerie Kreo.
Dubbed Efflorescence, the 20-piece furniture collection comprises tables, consoles, a mirror, ceramics and seats made from the robust building material and adorned with free-hand neon graffiti by Abloh. Forms are architecturally inspired and indented with holes along their upper surface, while typographic graffiti nods to the street culture at the heart of his clothing designs.
‘To me, design always has the inherent idea of being a bridge from the past, with an eye towards the future,’ Abloh said of the collection’s aesthetic, which includes zig-zagging edges that evoke the bevelled facade of a brutalist building.
Efflorescence opens today at Galerie Kreo’s Paris space and runs until 10 April. It’s set to be a busy month for Abloh, who’s currently preparing both his Louis Vuitton and Off-White menswear shows.
