Vintage photos of mid-century architecture are now viewable online

More than 1,000 vintage photos of American mid-century architecture are now available to view online in all their Modernist glory.

The University of South California (USC) has digitised collections of images taken by architect Pierre Koenig and Fritz Block, owner of a colour slide company as well as an architect in his own right.

Photographs include shots of buildings designed by leading architects of the Modernist movement, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Pierre Koenig himself.

The Sturges residence by Wright, the old CBS headquarters in Hollywood – now a NeueHouse – and Koenig’s own California home are just some of the structures captured.
