Its food might be full of flavour but the interiors of Prague restaurant Vegan Life are deliberately pared-back.

The Asian eatery sits within the city’s Karlín neighbourhood and fills the ground floor of a recently renovated block of flats. Architect Kryštof Blažek of Czech practice Studio Minio has crafted the canteen’s minimalist, barrel-vaulted interiors.

Says Blažek ‘I decided on [this palette of] colours, materials, patterns and lights for one goal – to create a kind of harmony and calming effect, and make guests feel comfortable.’

Colours are used with subtlety inside Vegan Life: a wall of glossy white tiles is punctuated by turquoise grout, while the restaurant’s stucco walls and ceilings have been sealed with a rose-tinted glaze. Copper lights hang from the centre of the barrel vaults.

Seating is designed by Studio Minio and made from bleached solid oak and pale pine. Long bar tables line the front windows of the Prague space, while smaller tables and benches fill the back room – a covered courtyard space, lit by 50 Chinese lanterns.

Continuing the natural palette, the cafeteria’s bespoke cafeteria counter is inlaid with a chevron pattern, made from cuts of spruce.
