A vast concrete compound designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando for fashion designer Tom Ford has gone on sale for a reported $75 million.
The Cerro Pelon Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, sprawls across 20,000 acres, and features a boxy main residence with full height windows, set beside a reflecting pool.
Ford’s estate includes two huge circular riding areas – also designed by the Pritzker award-winning architect – staff quarters, two guest houses, and a landing strip and hangar.
Tadao Ando has developed plans and models for a second residential compound to be built on the highest point of the estate, which encompasses the Cerro Pelon mountain. The Galisteo River journeys through the ranch, which features pueblo ruins and remnants of old mining equipment, according to real estate agent Kevin Bobolsky.
Another attraction for film lovers comes in the form of a wild west movie set, originally designed for 1985 film Silverado and now transformed from street facades into usable structures. Still occasionally in use as sets, the buildings are described by the agent as ‘an old “wild west” ghost town, waiting to be discovered’.
