Multi-gen living, work-live spaces, and creative compounds are all on offer at this Altadena Craftsman property by the Los Angeles-based design-build firm Counsel. The group’s principal designer Patrick Maziarksi conceived it as a trio of homes between live oaks on a 1,100 sq m lot in the hills above LA. It’s being marketed by Steve Clark of ClarkLiving for $1.995m.
One primary shingle residence dominates the scheme, designed with painted wood panelling, white-oak floors, custom red-oak cabinetry and a red-brick fireplace, all in the heritage Craftsman style. The kitchen and bathrooms have striking breccia antica marble countertops and glossy tiling in soft green. Windows are wide by placed strategically for maximum privacy.
The guest cottages have vaulted ceilings and coordinating details, with flexible layouts that could suit a studio, home office or tenant building. In total, there are five bedrooms and four bathrooms on the property.
The builders brought in Blvd Nursery to do new plantings between ‘paved’ areas of decomposed granite. The garden connects the three buildings and benefits from views of the San Gabriel Mountains from every corner.
