This midcentury Silver Lake house represents the platonic ideal of LA living

Eugene Weston III designed the post-and-beam house in 1959

The Fischer Residence sits above the street on a hillside parcel in Silver Lake, its post-and-beam structure remaining closely aligned with the original design by Los Angeles architect Eugene Weston. Currently housing its fourth owners, the house is offered with much of the material palette intact: wood framing, expanses of glazing, terrazzo and cork. These elements reflect the clarity and restraint of midcentury California modernism.

Set on nearly half an acre, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence occupies a level platform above the road, giving the interiors both privacy and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. Large panes of glass frame shifting views across the city and garden, drawing daylight deep into the living spaces throughout the day. A double-height living room anchors the plan, opening directly onto a broad deck and centred on a two-sided wood-burning and gas fireplace.

Outside, terraced planting leads to an upper seating area that looks out across Silver Lake. The property sits among other well-kept modernist houses, within walking distance of the neighbourhood’s cafés, restaurants and shops.

Spanning 1,872 square feet, the house is listed for $2,748,888.
