The Los Angeles designer Leah Ring of Another Human treated this 1.9-acre Yucca Valley plot like a living art installation, drenching each 1950s building with a different striking sunset hue that echoes the gradients rolling across the valley at dusk. Over time, each cabin became its own customised work, forming a colourful constellation that pops in the high-desert light. Everything on the property leans fully into the desert’s chromatic expression, right down to its name: Lavender Ranch.

All together, 1,463 square feet unfold across the one-bedroom main house (a permitted ADU known as ‘the Bunkhouse’) and detached studios. Ring took each structure down to the studs and rebuilt with new electricals, plumbing, HVAC, insulation and standing-seam metal roofs — a full restoration alongside the cosmetic overhaul. She considered the interior essentials as much as the decoration: hard-wearing cork flooring, restored vintage and designer lighting, custom cabinetry, a Malm gas fireplace and a kitchen fitted with Bertazzoni, Bosch and Summit appliances. Her art-led design choices include a Peter Shire toilet seat and hardware by Chen Chen & Kai Williams.
Outside are Joshua trees, Ipe decking, a cowboy tub, a new Jacuzzi hot tub and an original hearth, shaping a desert oasis that feels closely tied to its surroundings. It’s offered at $789,000.
