The Old War Office has been on the radar of London property-watchers since Raffles opened its OWO hotel in the baroque landmark two years ago, along with a wing of serviced residences for sale. Now, the OWO Residences by Raffles have partnered with five of the city’s standout interior design firms to create a collection of turnkey residences. The latest on offer was designed by StudioMorey, a design and architecture practice with signature apartments in London’s Centre Point and other prestigious locations.
Its property at OWO honours the special heritage and history of the Grade II-listed building while incorporating high-spec craftsmanship and contemporary amenities in a timeless package. The three-bedroom residence is currently on the market for £18m.
The property is extremely large by London standards, with 236 sq m of living space. StudioMorey founder Linda Morey-Burrows opened it up slightly to optimise the rooms and enhance sightlines. To outfit the spaces, she turned to a neutral palette of walnut, wenge and soft beiges. Some recognisable pieces from the canon of modernist masters appear, along with artisan-crafted objects — like pendant lights by Alexandra Robinson and ceramic shades by Rich Miller. ‘Every detail was meticulously considered for functionality and enjoyment, rather than being purely visually pleasing,’ says Morey-Burrows. ‘We design for longevity and to create a sense of home.’
Bedrooms feature soft neutrals and textiles by Casamance and Dedar. In the primary bedroom is a classic Gio Ponti armchair by Molteni&C and glass pendants by Rothschild &Bickers.
Morey-Burrow layered the look with textured Peter Paige rugs and brought in work with domestic themes by British artists like Clare Woods and Ross Head. She even added her own handcrafted flower press images to the walls of the guest bedroom.
‘Art is so much more than decoration,’ says Morey-Burrows. ‘It should be unique to the space, and we selected pieces by young emerging British artists who would be almost impossible to find anywhere else.’
Buyers will also benefit from a large private outdoor terrace, a rarity in the city, along with the building’s fitness studio, cinema and games room.
