It’s not quite 20,000 leagues under the sea, but this underwater hotel room lets you sleep deep beneath the surf – for a cool $50,000 per night.

Architect Ahmed Saleem designed the nine-person underwater bungalow for the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort. Dubbed Muraka, which means coral in Dhivehi, it is set to welcome guests later this year.

Muraka is constructed from steel, concrete and acrylic, and is set across two levels. Above the waterline, the top floor houses two bedrooms, a sun deck, infinity pool and a bathroom with an ocean-facing bathtub. The living room and king-sized master bedroom are 16.4 ft below the sea and feature transparent acrylic domes that look directly onto the surrounding coral reef and sea life.

If you’re forking out $50,000 per night, you’d expect some extra perks. The hefty price tag also includes flights to the villa’s own private seaplane jetty, as well as the use a speedboat for the duration of its guests’ stay.

Four butlers live in a nearby dwelling, providing round-the-clock-service, and there’s also an on-call fitness trainer, chef and jet skis, meaning you don’t have to set foot on dry land at all during your stay if you don’t want to.

Muraka joins the resort’s underwater restaurant, Ithaa, but it’s not the only subaqueous project making headlines right now. In October Snohetta revealed it is currently working in Europe’s first submerged restaurant and research centre off the coast of Norway.
