A high-rolling Manhattan lifestyle is on offer at this impressive SoHo loft that could be straight out of a fashionista’s fantasy.
The landmark 56 Crosby Street dates from 1882 and is located on a cobblestone street in the Soho Cast Iron District. Once a department store, it was transformed into a boutique 10-loft condominium in 2001. The building made a memorable cameo appearance in the cult film The Devil Wears Prada (which currently has a sequel in the works) as the studio of fashion designer James Holt.
This 4,000-sq-ft loft, with its open floorplan, mirrors Holt’s fictional space though the styling is very different. David Howell’s renovation highlights its historical elements—soaring 16-foot ceilings, exposed brick walls, columns and expansive loft windows—while introducing a sophisticated new look.
The great room, framed by Corinthian columns and a towering wall of carved cherry wood with a working fireplace, sets a dramatic tone. It looks extra slick thanks to staging and styling from design firm Interior Marketing Group (IMG).
The two-bedroom, two-bath Manhattan loft is asking for a cool $8.995m via Amy Medizabal, Calli Sarkesh and Niklas Hackstein of Compass. The primary suite boasts a spa-like ensuite with a sit-in shower and dry sauna, and there’s also a home gym, elevated glass conservatory and 400-bottle temperature-controlled wine storage.
