Deep burgundies and pale pinks evoke the serenity of sundown at Montreal’s new Middle Eastern restaurant Shay, designed by Ivy Studio.
Hand-painted murals layer rose-tinted colours on top of one another like sand dunes, while darker coloured light fittings evoke the deeper shades of sunset.
The desert atmosphere is emphasised by Ivy Studio’s use of folded curtains and fabrics to make diners feel as if they’re ensconced in a Bedouin tent.
But it’s not all sand and sky. Plush blue velvet dining benches and banquettes wind through the Montreal dining spot, supported by mahogany plinths and tables. Contrast also comes in the form of a pale blue marble bar, where guests can order bloody marys topped with pickles and stuffed vine leaves.
