Bath’s famous Royal Crescent celebrates its 250th anniversary today – and now you can own a slice of it.
A two-bedroom apartment has come up for sale on the Georgian row, whose foundations began being laid on 19 May 1767.

The half-kilometre terrace of houses, built by John Wood the younger to designs by his father, took over seven years to complete. Today it ranks among the UK’s biggest tourist destinations, thanks to its appearance in numerous West Country period dramas.
In the 18th century, however, it was an exclusive destination reserved for the cream of British aristocracy, who would rent a house or apartment there (often for the summer months, while they’d take in Bath’s ‘medicinal’ spa waters.)
This property at 12 Royal Crescent is a garden apartment, and it blurs Georgian and contemporary influences. Many original features have been retained inside the Grade I-listed home – on the market via Savills for £650,000 – including timber flooring, sash windows (with working shutters) and wine shelves in the bathroom which have been left exposed.
Residents of the Crescent have access to the huge private lawn that runs in front of the terrace, but an added bonus is the apartment’s south-facing courtyard.
As part of the Crescent’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the row of houses will be illuminated tonight.
