A revived 19th-century masseria has hit the market on the Italian island of Favignana for €1.6m.

Favignana, nicknamed La Farfalla for its butterfly shape, is the largest of the Aegadian Islands, off the north-west coast of Sicily. The fortified farmhouse complex, which dates back to 1833, sits on a hectare of land between between Cala Rotonda and Cala Stornella.

Il Baglio is set around an internal courtyard, with the main 120 sq m house occupying prime position. Its rooms have been very simply restored and feature raftered ceilings and stone walls and floors.

The living room has a woodburning stove, while two upstairs bedrooms have views out towards the island of Marettimo.

Three smaller buildings surround the main house, acting as self-contained guest accommodation with six additional bedrooms between them. According to listing agent Italy Sotheby’s International Realty, there is room to expand the Italian property further as a holiday home…
