The Costa Brava isn’t all about the coastline, as this leafy hilltop retreat proves.

Villa CP sits on a private slope overlooking 28,000 hectares of cork forest.

Barcelona-based architect Co Govers revived the old stone ruin. She turned it into a five-bedroom home with glass and steel openings that make the most of the surrounding views.

At the heart of Villa CP is an open-plan Bulthaup kitchen and dining room, while a mezzanine-level living room – complete with wood burning stove – is tucked above a games room and study.

Off the main house is a self-contained annex and outside, a natural pool and several terraces make the most of the forest views.

Completed in 2013, the villa is 6 km from the nearest town, offering a rare chance to really get away from it all.

Villa CP is now available to rent via The Modern House.
