A rare example of a self-build Usonian Automatic home, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is up for sale for $850,000 in New Hampshire.
Kalil House is one of small cache of properties by Frank Lloyd Wright that were ordered as DIY kits and sent down to owners to self-build. Usonian Automatic homes are characterised by their concrete exteriors, made up of dozens of blocks that form walls, as well as a set of grid-like windows.
This Manchester home – on the market with Paula Martin Group – dates back to 1955, when it was built for Dr Toufic Kalil and his wife Mildred, who were inspired by their friend’s own Frank Lloyd Wright home down the road.
The two-bedroom concrete property looks to be well preserved, with many of its original fixtures left in place. Coffered ceilings contrast wooden panelling and bright red floors, with light and views of the surrounding woods filtering in through clerestory windows.
