Paris’s Hôtel Madame Rêve opens after a nearly decade-long renovation

The former Louvre post office has undergone a radical adaptive reuse

Hôtel Madame Rêve has finally revealed herself on Paris’ Rue du Louvre after nearly a decade of extensive refurbishment – and she’s every bit as grand as her name and location imply.

Dominique Perrault Architecture oversaw the transformation and adaptive reuse of the prominent 19th-century building, which was once France’s largest post office.

Meanwhile, founder Laurent Taïeb led the creative direction for the Paris hotel’s imposing and opulent interiors – think rows of chandeliers and elegant black columns in the downstairs cafe, and walnut panelling and golden, velvet curtains in the bedrooms. Taïeb has commissioned a long list of French artists and designers to fill the hotel with murals, frescos, portraits and pieces of furniture.

Hôtel Madame Rêve makes the most of its Rue du Louvre location, with banks of skylights giving the top floor suites panoramic views of the city and some of its most iconic buildings – including the Louvre itself, which is a few minutes walk away. The hotel’s roof terrace looks out across Paris, with the added bonus of a cocktail bar nearby.

Rooms at the five-star hotel start from £352 per night.
