Paris restaurant Melt is a neon-lit diner with a sense of the theatrical

Atelier HA went for the retro-revival aesthetic at this smoked meat restaurant in Paris’s 15th District, using colours and materials that channel the classic American diner.

The studio brought together a mix of true vintage and custom-designed pieces to create Melt’s interiors, which are awash in orange neon light – courtesy of lamps sourced from a 1970s German cafeteria.

The main set piece is the restaurant’s black and white bar, covered in checkerboard tiles and lit for dramatic effect. Diners can sit here, on tall stalls, or sink into one of Melt’s green and red velvet banquettes.

From there, they can watch the chefs – and the meat smoker – at work through a custom glass section created by Atelier HA to open the kitchen up to the restaurant.

Melt’s vintage vibes continue all the way through to the bathrooms, where the studio has really gone to town with marble tiles, avocado-coloured fittings and swan taps with outstretched wings.
