Palau Fugit is a stone palace in the heart of Girona’s historic quarter

Freshly revamped to mix old with new

Guests experience a taste of 18th-century Girona at this newly renovated hotel, which brings modern design into the palace’s centuries-old rooms.

Views of the medieval city peek into every room at Palau Fugit, as a reminder of the building’s long history. That heritage has been given a recent update, however, with the hotel under renovation for much of 2022.

Barcelona practice El Equipo Creativo led the interiors. It says the hotel ‘reveals numerous surprises, historical and current, almost as if it were a Pandora’s box’.

All the hallmarks of its past remain but are cast in a new light thanks to a palette of rattan, velvet, brass and marble and a mix of colours that range from salmon pink and sage green to sea blue.

Visitors can lounge in wood and steel armchairs in Palau Fugit’s stone courtyard, La Placeta, before heading for dinner at Casa Heras. There are also spa treatments available at La Cova d’aigua, which is carved into the limestone rock of Girona’s historic ramparts. Rooms start around €300 per night.
