One of Austria’s prettiest lakes has a new castle stay

After a two-year renovation of its dated interior, Rosewood Hotels has transformed Austria’s historic Schloss Fuschl into a palatial lakefront resort complete with a heated pool, bicycle paths, and panoramic alpine views.

On the dramatic tip of Lake Fuschl, in the Salzkammergut region east of Salzburg, the 600-year-old castle now operates like a mini-city, with nearly 100 rooms and private chalets, several restaurants, a spa and its own fish smokery next door.

The rooms are meticulous, dressed in neutral upholsteries, custom lighting and blocks of luxurious marble in the bathrooms. The expansive grounds are invaded by wild herbs and natural forest, and benefit from access to the pristine lake. A water taxi service shuttles guests regularly into Fuschl town, part of the 2024 European Capital of Culture.

The Austrian hotel is currently taking bookings ahead of its opening on 1 July.
