An Olympian’s minimalist Melbourne townhouse goes up for auction

The Melbourne home of a former olympic skier is about to go under the hammer – with a guide price of between $1m to $1.1m AUD.

Former athlete Katya Crema shares the minimalist three-bedroom property in the suburb of Brunswick with Hip V Hype founder Liam Wallis, who designed and developed the contemporary abode for the couple.

From the outside, the North Street dwelling is arranged as a series of roughly stacked, timber-clad boxes, in contrasting shades of dark and natural woods.

An open living room and kitchen fills the ground floor, which has cool concrete floors, crisp white walls and a kitchen decked in white subway tiles. Sliding double doors tumble out onto the property’s enclosed patio.

Up a level are three bedrooms, while the Australian property’s upper volume is capped by a 50 sq m ‘roofyard’ with panoramic views of the city.

‘The townhouse takes up the majority of the block, so the roof deck gives you an opportunity to replace that backyard,’ says Wallis. ‘We call it our roofyard – it’s kind of corny, but it really does get used that way because it’s that extra bit of space.’
