Conran and Partners give Prague’s Maximilian Hotel a revamp

Moody blues and pastel hues

Beloved Prague hotel the Maximilian is turning 25 and to celebrate Conran and Partners have overhauled its interiors and added a new bar, brasserie and library.

Maximilian Hotel sits opposite the Haštal church – a stone’s throw from the Old Town Square – inside a 1903 building, and has become a favourite with international travellers since opening in 1995.

Conran and Partners’ makeover is said to reference the clean lines and colours of Czech modernism. Its 71 bedrooms are imbued with a classic blue colour scheme teamed with black steel and light oak furniture. Headboards reference local basket weaving while photomontages by Czech artist Karel Teige deck the walls.

The pastel-hued Brasserie Maximilian features sage green walls set with domed brass lighting pendants, tawny leather banquette seating and dark timber wall dividers – matched with dark wooden tables.
