Parts of Villa Poggio Torselli – which is coming to market imminently according to The Wall Street Journal – date back to 1427 when it was built by relates of Niccolò Machiavelli. It was altered in 1702 to its current version, and the 40-room Florence property is presently owned by former Palermo football club owner, the Zamparini family.

An avenue of mature cypress trees leads to the entrance of the 21,000 sq ft building, bedded into the hills of San Casciano in Val di Pesa. It comprises a large rectangular palazzo with two wings, and rooms are hung with antique chandeliers, gilded furniture, Italianate mouldings and frescoed ceilings. These include restored murals by Baroque artists Pier Dandini, Matteo Bonechi and Niccolò Lapi.
