London’s night-tube kicked into action last week as the city’s underground network went 24-hour. But that’s not all that the capital wants to keep running through the night…

The Mayor of London’s office announced it is hiring a ‘Night Czar’ to advise on rejuvenating the capital’s flagging club scene.

‘A third of London’s small music venues have closed since 2007, damaging our city’s cultural offering and having a negative effect on jobs and the economy,’ said London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan during his electoral campaign.

‘We can save London’s iconic club scene, which draws thousands of visitors to the capital, generates jobs and helps ensure our city remains prosperous, vibrant and dynamic.’

The announcement for £35k position (2.5 day per week) is the first step towards fulfilling Khan’s electoral pledge to revive the city’s night time economy. It also follows the indefinite closure of East London’s Fabric nightclub last month, after the deaths of two of its patrons.

According to the job listing, the Night Czar will be tasked with creating ‘a vision for London as 24-hour city and a roadmap showing how the vision will be realised.’
