Wednesday 13 December 2022: It was Charles Dickens that birthed the myth of the ‘white Christmas’, but in reality, December isn’t typically a snowy month in the UK.
But 2022 threw a curveball, blanketing parts of the country, including southern England and London, in snow – and shutting schools, roads and transit in the process. While the headlines are dominated by inflation and the energy crisis, Britain recorded the coldest day of the year on Monday morning, plummeting to -15.7 celsius in northern Scotland, according to the Met Office.
