Soft lighting and dark wood cocoons diners at Auckland’s Lilian, which is designed to feel ‘as though it will be around awhile’.
Local studio CTRL Space oversaw the interiors for the restaurant, sourcing and installing vintage lighting and aged timber – to create a lived-in feel for guests. Maroon leather banquettes together with dark ceilings and furniture create a homely atmosphere inside Lilian, offset by textured walls and marble countertops.
White linen cafe curtains and bentwood stools in the window complete the feeling of stepping through a portal to Europe. The studio says the aim was to put ‘comfort and approachability at its heart’.
Lilian’s menu reflects its interiors, serving up woodfired pizza alongside lamb, steak and octopus – and finished with tiramisu or panna cotta. The drinks menu is extensive, with classic cocktails as well as a long list of wines.
