LEGO has launched Superpower Studios in Paris, an immersive pop-up children’s art gallery designed to ignite imagination through play. Located at La Gaîté Lyrique, this innovative space, open until 16 September, transforms the traditional gallery into an interactive playground.

LEGO Group’s VP of Brand Development, Alero Akuya, and Colette co-founder Sarah Andelman have commissioned artists Aurélia Durand, Chen Fenwan, and Ekow Nimako to create three distinct worlds that challenge conventional gallery norms.

Chen Fenwan, a self-taught paper-cut artist, has designed the ‘Forest of Wishes,’ a neon pink environment inspired by Chinese folklore. Here, children are encouraged to use their ‘superpower of play’ to build LEGO seeds that expand the forest.

Aurélia Durand’s ‘Remix Room’ features rows of brightly coloured screens displaying her illustrations. Touchscreen tables allow children to engage in games that promote collaboration and creativity, enabling them to paint, mix, and remix Durand’s artworks into their own unique creations.

Ghanaian-Canadian artist Ekow Nimako has created the ‘Mythical Maze,’ a plastic jungle inspired by Afro-futurism, science fiction, and mythology. Known for his previous LEGO collaborations using black bricks to build elaborate sculptures, Nimako’s maze includes a wildlife soundtrack and invites children to navigate its puzzles and gather inspiration.

Superpower Studios is free to access, with timed slots available to book via the website. This exhibition is part of LEGO’s ‘Play is Your Superpower’ initiative, including upcoming projects like the world’s most playable library in China, a LEGO-themed restaurant pop-up in Japan, and a dance studio in Australia.

Research commissioned by LEGO and conducted by We Are Futures, surveying over 61,500 parents and children, reveals that 40% of families lack adequate play space, and 76% of parents believe children today have fewer opportunities to play compared to previous generations.
