July brings Alsatian dining to central London

The new restaurant offers small plates and homely decor

As we head into summer, a new London restaurant has nailed the look of the season.

The Alsatian café and wine bar July, in London’s Fitzrovia neighbourhood, reflects the eclectic style of co-founders Solynka Dumas and Julian Oschman with welcoming shades of ochre, warm woods, caning and vintage lamps.

Behind a colour-drenched façade, interior designer Ashleigh James interpreted the owners’ mood board using bold ‘moments’ of lively colour against a timeless, muted backdrop. Distinct vignettes throughout the cosy space mark the transition from daytime bakery to evening wine bar. Buttery white walls adapt gracefully in the morning light and into the golden hour, contrasting with the rust and yellow tones to form a rich environment.

‘The colour scheme feels fresh and playful whilst not taking itself too seriously,’ says James. ‘This sets the tone for the space, which is all about making guests feel relaxed and at home.’

A rotating collection of original artwork and a hand-painted mural by artist Orfeo Tagiuri polish off the look.

July provides a neighbourhood hub for comfort food and low-intervention wines from France and Central Europe. Dishes like schnitzel, rösti, pâtés and creamy puddings are designed to be shared, beginning with morning pastries and ending with seasonal small plates and cheese boards. The Charlotte Street location is convenient for Fitzrovia’s creative businesses by day and becomes a destination by night.
