This Connecticut property has not one but two stellar names attached to it: the 1961 home was designed by architect Beverley David Thorne for jazz composer Dave Brubeck.

Now listed for the first time ever via Monica Webster of Douglas Elliman for $2.75m, the seven-bedroom midcentury house in Wilton, Connecticut was the musician’s reward to his family to celebrate selling over one million copies of his seminal record, Time Out.

The 7.5-acre compound has been held in the Brubeck family since then, and the 6,250 sq ft main home was built with wood, glass and stone – a break from Thorne’s better known steel-framed Californian designs.

Interiors feature fieldstone walls and floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and a soaring double-height living room. Brubeck travelled extensively across Japan in the mid-1960s, and elements inspired from this tour include shoji sliding doors that open onto wraparound porches, as well as furniture by master craftsman George Nakashima.

Of course, the standout space for jazz fans is the large wood-panelled music room, which houses four pianos.
