This new villa at Greece’s Amanzoe resort comes with sun, sea and sky views – framed by James Turrell’s first ever mediterranean art installation.

Known as ‘Sky Plain’ – and part of his ongoing series Skyspaces – the sculpture takes the form of a crisp 36 sq m cube. Turrell has created a large aperture in its ceiling, which turns the Peloponnese sky into an artwork. His installation is designed to submerge viewers in an immersive environment, disconnected from the land.

‘Without light, there is no life,’ says James Turrell. ‘Amanzoe means “peaceful life” and I hope those who experience this work will feel a peaceful sense of the power of the light.’

‘Sky Plain’ is installed in Villa 31 of the Amanzoe resort founded by the Aman group. Guest staying at the one-bedroom holiday home in Greece can enjoy the artwork throughout their stay, as well as the dwelling’s 22-m private pool, outside terraces and living room, which are set around a reflection pool.

But guests at the resort’s other villas needn’t feel hard done by: they can book an exclusive dining experience (subject to availability) which culminates in the chance to get up close and personal with the art installation.

Amanzoe is close to Porto Heli – Greece’s version of the French Riviera. The resort, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, comprises a 38-suite hotel, spa, beach club and a number of Aman villas, which are inspired by classical Greek temples and feature columns, pitched roofs and stone facades.

More of the Turrell’s Skyspaces are dotted across the globe, including his ‘Skyspace Piz Uter’ at the Hotel Castell in Zuoz – featured in our guide to art in the Alps. An Irish hotel with a huge Sky Garden crater also hit the market earlier this year for €7.5m.
