Old world Venice meets modernism at iTL Italian Kitchen in Adelaide

Glossy concrete and terrazzo surfaces play with wood

Concrete and terrazzo interweave  at this Adelaide restaurant, which promises a ‘familiar, yet new’ experience of Italian dining with a rich Aussie twist.

Local practice Genesin Studio has created a seamless blend of materials for iTL, laying walnut timber and Palladiana mosaic flooring alongside concrete elements that are straight from a modernist villa. Hand-trowelled stucco walls, painted in a glossy sunshine yellow, alongside tubular steel bar stools and long dining sofas complete the look.

There’s space for 190 covers in the restaurant’s expansive dining room, which is loosely divided into eight sections – with room to stop and have an espresso or cocktail, as well as sit down for dinner. iTL’s menu reflects its surroundings, featuring hand-made pasta and 36-hour dough pizza, next to a long list of negronis and spritzes.
