In London, a grand ballroom apartment has a legacy of joy and entertainment

Crowned by a soaring dome and ornate mouldings

Footsteps, laughter, and the sound of music echoed for generations within the walls of this transformed ballroom, whose legacy of joy and decadence is still tangible beneath its soaring domed ceiling.

The historic three-bedroom apartment is located inside a former Edwardian hotel on Loughborough Road in southwest London, which was converted into large residential flats in 2008. Spanning 1,880 sq ft, the space once served as a formal ballroom during the grand hotel’s halcyon days and later became a salsa club and acrobatics venue.

Amid its changing roles, the apartment’s decorative features were retained and restored during its conversion. The living room and kitchen are crowned by an ornately moulded dome ceiling, with the room finished in a period-appropriate palette of pastel yellow, blue and white. Sash windows flood the space with light, and herringbone carpet runs underfoot. The old fireplace still works and is the focal point of the seating area, with a home office and bedroom rounding off the level and a south-facing outdoor terrace extending off the kitchen to catch the afternoon sun.

A mezzanine skirts the grand space and houses two further bedrooms, including the primary suite, which offers an elevated view of the restored, intricate Edwardian plasterwork.

Inigo is listing the Old Ballroom apartment for £1.15m. See inside the London property.
