Want to add a splash of heritage to your Christmas tipple? Historypin’s got it covered. The website, which plots heritage sites around the world on a map, has provided a rundown of the country’s most storied pubs.
Created together with the National Brewery Heritage Trust, the chart showcases vintage photos of the boozers, including 6,000 previously unseen shots of pubs in a network supplied by Charrington, a former brewery.
Regulars, past landlords and staff have also contributed anecdotes about their watering holes.
‘Pubs have historically played an important role in Britain’s local communities by providing meeting places, supporting formal and informal social networks and being a focal point for local events,’ says the site. ‘These unique pubs and their place as a vibrant centre of community life need to be documented and celebrated.’
Locals, landlords and pub lovers can add their own stories and photographs on the website. Writer Adrian Tierney-Jones has also penned a book called London Local Pubs: Past and Present using the material collected on Historypin.
