A 200-year-old townhouse in Mahón has been restored and transformed into an eight-room hotel, and it still bears the traces of its storied past.
Architect Emma Martí oversaw the building’s renovation, preserving as many of the historic details as possible. Wooden beams and patterned tiles are, mostly, completely original, with modern counterparts chosen to replace any missing elements that couldn’t be rescued.
New additions come in the form of an extra plywood staircase, and pine partitioned bathrooms in each of the rooms, as well as skylights added to open up and bring light into the townhouse’s upper levels.
Martí has installed an eclectic range of furniture in the hotel, mixing vintage and contemporary pieces and sourcing objects from well-known design brands including Nanimarquina and Achille Castiglioni, as well as antiques dealers. Rooms start at €170 per night.
