You travel to Marrakech for two things: the local colour and the singular charm of its riads, those courtyard townhouses swathed in woven fabrics and zellige tile.

This revamped riad, on the market with Morocco Sotheby’s Realty, offers both. Revamped by a local family in hues you might recognise from the spice markets or souks, it offers a sunnier, more flamboyant version of the traditional Moroccan home, slathered in neutral tadelakt plaster and is currently priced at €505,000.

The decorators have chosen a palette of spring greens and vermilion, accessorised with local kilim rugs and white-veined black marble. The open-air common areas are tiled in bright red, which slowly takes over in the upper-floor bedrooms. The rooftop terrace, a typical feature of Moroccan riads, has green plaster walls and herringbone-tiled floors.

Ideally located in the Dar el Bacha district, on the quieter side of the busy medina, the home was renovated in 2019 with a modern kitchen and three new baths. It now has two en suite bedrooms over 128 sqm.
