Dimore Studio has drawn inspiration from the butler pantries of 1930s Italian villas for its design of Aesop’s new Milan store.

The firm dressed the skincare brand’s 35 sq m space on Via Meravigli with teal subway tiles and installed display cabinets of the same colour. Metallic accents, including stainless steel sinks and brass lights, also reference the material palette of old butler pantries – where the family silverware was kept.

‘For Milan, we looked for a local and distinctive trait,’ the studio told designboom.

‘The furniture is reminiscent of old chests and cupboards found in Italian villas, whereas the linoleum on the floor is influenced by the kitchen and pantry flooring seen in [architect] Piero Portaluppi’s Villa Necchi.’

Dimore Studio previously worked on Aesop’s Paris outpost in the Saint-Germaindes-Prés area.
