The best stays in Paris occupy the nebulous zone between fully staffed hotel and house-share. With that zone expanding, a renovated Art Deco townhouse called Villa Junot recently opened its doors to overnight guests, positing an intimate, elegant means of enjoying the city.
Set on an elegant residential street in Montmartre, the ‘hôtel particulier’ operates like a private home with a discreet private staff of housekeeper, house manager, concierge and optional chef. At 710 square metres, it can sleep 12 across five double bedrooms and five bathrooms, including a children’s bunk room decorated with astronomical motifs.
A celestial theme permeates the rest of the house, from the marble sun embedded in the foyer’s terrazzo floor to bas reliefs and hand-painted murals. Built-in niches display artful curiosities, and deep upholstered seating creates intimate corners for conversation. There’s an eat-in kitchen and dining room, a walk-in bar and terrace dining area, as well as a media room and private wellness suite with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and fitness room.
Trompe l’oeil paint effects in the sweeping stairway lead to well-appointed bedrooms and an office with enough space to take meetings. But guests will revel in the views from the 120-square-metre rooftop deck, with views to Sacré Coeur and the whole of Paris.
Check-in and check-out times are flexible, and booking is by request through Iconic House.
