How do you celebrate two decades as one of the world’s original concept stores? If you’re Parisian boutique Colette, you bring The Beach to Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

The installation is a witty riff on the textures and culture of a summer’s day, conceived by Snarkitecture co-founders Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen, and designed by Bjarke Ingels Group.

First shown at Washington DC’s National Building Museum in 2015, The Beach uses spongiform material that’s designed to feel like sand while its ‘ocean’ comprises over 300,000 recyclable plastic balls.

Guests to the exhibition, which is in Paris until 25 March, can pull up a deckchair as part of Colette’s ongoing 20th birthday celebrations. The eponymous concept boutique was founded by Colette Rousseau and her daughter Sarah Andelman, and is known for its eye-catching in-store installations and championing menswear brands.
