On a quiet two-block street in Ventura, this multi-building property brings together living, working and shared outdoor space within a tightly considered architectural framework. Known as Garden Street Studios, the site combines a renovated 1920s bungalow at the rear with three newly built standalone structures at the front, each arranged to allow residential and studio uses to coexist across a compact urban block. Located less than a mile from the beach, the entire property is listed for $1.895 million with The Value of Architecure.

The new buildings are defined by cantilevered orthogonal forms, exposed structural steel, corrugated metal cladding and ribbon windows that recall the Case Study House programme, adapted here for contemporary live–work use. Upstairs, one-bedroom apartments sit above ground-floor studio spaces, with gardens and courtyards threaded between the volumes. Interiors rely on a restrained material palette, including polished concrete, colourful Marmoleum flooring and sliding polycarbonate panels, with operable windows allowing cross-ventilation and views toward the surrounding hills and distant snowcapped mountains.
At the rear of the site, the original bungalow has been reworked throughout, now finished with metal board-and-batten siding, cork floors, covered decks and French doors opening onto a private patio. Together, the four addresses accommodate seven units across 3,723 square feet on a 7,840sqft lot.
Designed by Richard Orne, the property is zoned for both commercial and residential use, allowing for multiple configurations ranging from a single-family compound to a fully rentable income property.
