Located inside a former Danish public library, the BOOK1 Design Hostel in Aarhus offers a taste of luxury hotel life with a minimal price tag.

BOOK1 has ‘pod dorms’ and bunk bed rooms for weary travellers, who can also recharge and mingle with guests in communal spaces (and even play ping pong together). But there are a few extra features that set it apart from regular hostels, including a sauna, and the option of private suites for visitors in need of their own space.

Interiors have an industrial feel thanks to the concrete beams, chrome light fittings and grey colour palette. Spaces are enlivened by some quirky touches, such as the Airstream-style cocktail bar, wavy sofas, and room of suspended teepees.

Dinner comes courtesy of the hostel’s MIB food court, which serves organic breakfast as well as pizza, falafel, smørrebrød and burgers, with furniture in the space celebrating the most 90s of interior trends – inflatable furniture.

Rooms at BOOK1 Design Hostel start at 195 DKK for a pod dorm.
