A new 12-month ‘welcome stamp’ is opening up Barbados to long-term visitors, inviting remote workers to relocate to the country for up to a year.
The scheme is designed to boost the country’s economy, giving visitors from around the world the chance to stay in Barbados while working digitally for their employer.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has attributed the Barbados Welcome Stamp to the changing attitudes and worries around short term travel, saying it will allow people to take advantage of Barbados’ sun, sea and sand for a longer stretch of time than they might normally.
Long-term visitors will be able to stay in villas and hotel rooms and rentals, and Mottley says workspaces are ready to accept the influx. Barbados will require all visitors to present a negative COVID-19 test at the airport, with a more recent result required from higher-risk countries.
