Los Angeles is one of the world’s most creative cities – and one of the most expensive. But a new residency is giving one artist the chance to live and work in the city rent-free for six months.
The winning creative will be given a one-bedroom loft in the OLiVE DTLA, a ‘new, art-inspired apartment community’ in the city’s Downtown, which can be used as their home, art studio or pop-up space.
They’ll also receive a monthly allowance to cover the cost of art supplies, and have their work displayed in communal areas in the building, designed by TCA Architects, on a monthly basis.
To qualify for entry artists ‘must have an understanding/passion for DTLA,’ says the competition guidelines.
And when they’re not hard at work, the resident artist can also make the most of the building’s 24-hour fitness centre, swimming pool, sun deck, spa and community room.
Rents in Los Angeles typically average $2,313 per month for a one-bed studio, while apartments in OLiVE range from $2,024 to $3,696.
The residency programme is a collaboration between the building’s developer, The Wolff Company, and Street Art House. Artists have until 7 April to submit their application.
