Lake|Flato Architects scooped the AIA San Antonio Merit Award for modern desert house built on the edge of Arizona’s Geronimo golf course in 2009.

Known as the Brown Residence – and now on the market for $2.695m via Azarchitecture/Jarson & Jarson – the Scottsdale property was designed to blend into the arid terrain, and features a weathered steel exterior with vast planes of glass that make the most of its mountain views.

Shady overhangs help cool the desert home, while oversized pivoting glass doors open the house up to a number of private courtyards.

Inside the contemporary Arizona property, rooms feature 14-ft ceilings and a mix of concrete and mesquite hardwood floors. More midcentury vibes come from its oak ceilings and wood-panelled walls, and the living room has a corner fireplace that’s built into intersecting glass walls.

While the master bedroom has its own private courtyard, the two guest bedrooms are separated from the main house by shaded walkways. A sunken patio with a fire pit also leads to a steel-wrapped infinity pool.

Geronimo golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1989 on the fringes of Tonto National Forest. The Brown Residence is part of the 8,000-acre community that has sprung up around Geronimo’s six golf courses and clubhouses called Desert Mountain.
