A magical haze has descended on the Old Botanical Garden in Zurich, which is hosting a misty Biennale artwork.

Entitled NEBULOSUS, and created by architecture studio AUTHOS and artist Stella Speziali, the piece invites visitors into a cloud-filled stretch of greenery – created in response to the Zurich Design Biennale’s 2021 theme of Clash. According to the designers, the piece is a reference to climate change and our own powerlessness over the climate.

The artwork covers 50 sq m of the botanical garden – including its waterfall, cave and pond – and changes throughout the day according to the weather.

At night time NEBULOSUS takes on a different aspect entirely thanks to projection mapping, which creates light and colour effects in response to people’s movement. You’ll have to be quick to experience it in person, however, as it’s only open until 5 September.
