An architect-designed farmhouse conversion in rural Wales lists for under £1m

The Brecon Beacons property comes with planning permission to redo the outbuildings to the architect’s plans

A rare countryside gem, this 18th-century Brecon Beacons farmhouse was refurbished by Jones Architects Studio, and juxtaposes black-stained cedar cladding with the limewashed stone of the original outbuildings. (The purchase price includes planning permission to overhaul them, too.)

The three-storey, south-facing conversion known as Libanus cantilevers over a rocky stream with a clever sheltered west-facing terrace accessed via floor to ceiling doors that expose the interior entirely.

Inside, some of the 300-year-old brick peeks out over the new polished concrete floors. The stone fireplace is also original, fitted with a log-burning stove. The communal spaces are finished with refined wood panelling, bespoke cabinetry and a newly fitted kitchen, stained to complement the exterior siding.
The modernised building links to the next cabin over via a glass walkway where three bedrooms are housed. The master bedroom is tucked under the oak eaves and fitted with storage and ensuites: clean, modern shower rooms with matt black fixtures.

Nearly four acres of landscaped gardens wrap around the property, showcasing native wildflowers, hedgerows and old forest.

The Modern House is listing Libanus for £995,000.
