Domestic details are turned on their head in Amastan hotel, a new Paris bolthole conceived as a home from home.

French design studio NOCC has covered walls in blue parquet, while a bespoke tapestry by German designer Jan Kath ‘melts’ from the wall onto seating and onto the floor.

‘Given the location and size of the building, we decided to tell the story of the townhouse of a modern day, globally-roaming flâneur,’ explains NOCC founders Juan Pablo Naranjo and Jean-Christophe Orthlieb.

The 24-room hotel – the first Amastan flagship – is situated in the city’s 8th arrondissement, near to the Avenue des Champs Elysées. Its bedrooms feature bespoke wood furniture with copper and brass details, while the downstairs bar is fitted with a two-storey library wall. The room opens onto a courtyard garden, planted with flora native to the city.

Adds the duo: ‘The palette we chose mixes dark and light colours which allowed us to create soothing, private spaces, as well as a bright and more energetic spaces designed for the public experience.

‘[It was a challenge] to create a warm and cosy feeling while using materials and colours that are usually associated with cold and minimal spaces.’
