A RIBA award-winning barn conversion – also longlisted for the House of the Year 2017 prize – has gone on sale in the UK’s Devon for £750,000.

Cob Corner is a former cattle barn dating back to the 17th century. It was carefully converted into a contemporary country house by architect David Sheppard and his wife Sally over a 16-year period and scooped RIBA’s South West Award 2017.

The three-bedroom Devon property – on the market via Knight Frank – has been likened to a ‘wooden puzzle’ by Grand Designs TV presenter Kevin McCloud. It is held together by axe-cut timber pegs and has a façade covered in reclaimed timber shutters.

Cob Corner’s former ‘tallet’ (or hayloft) is now a large living room with exposed oak trusses and a wood burning stove. Windows overlook the river Erme estuary and surrounding countryside.

The rustic kitchen, studio and two bedrooms are topped by a sedum green roof which blossoms with flowers in spring.
